Final Fantasy IV DS Remake of the 1991 Snes game Genre: JRPG The good - This game has cut-scenes with decent voice acting.
- The game is difficult af. I died probably around 30 times. This game requires you to use different strategies against different foes.
The bad - This game uses an augment system which means there are items which give your characters special abilities like dualcast (cast 2 spells in one turn). However, the game never really explains how to get these, so if you’re not using a guide, good luck!
- It is a DS game so you can’t expect much from the graphics, but the 3D rendering looks bollocks.
- The difficulty. If a player has missed out on augments, the game becomes ridiculously difficult. Some regular enemies can one shot you and bosses will murder you before you can even think of a plan.
The verdict FFIV was the first in the series to be released on SNES, which allowed Square to tell more complex stories and have character development. However, by today's standards the story is shit. The dialogue between characters is dry, except for Cid. He has some character. The DS version allows you to see what each character is thinking at any point in the game, but it doesn't really add any depth to any of the characters. Score 5.5/10 Back in the day this game was an important step toward FFVI. However, the game has aged poorly, and it's not a story worth re-telling. Nonetheless, it's still a Final Fantasy game, and you'll still get the basics. Airships, chocobos, crystals etc. etc.
