To add on a little bit: Try to find some common ground with those you disagree with if possible. Even if you disagree on most everything, it's not worth having discussion devolve into what Ikit Klaw mentioned above.

Common ground is key and not demonizing people for having a different opinion. It is best to find out why someone has an opinion, sometimes you learn new things about your own views in the process!
