I was just on mine via Playstation Store after using PS Now for less than 10 minutes or so. After I'd left the game and went back to the Playstation Store main screen, my PS3 froze and then beeped 3 times and then shut down.
I keep it well ventilated on a small table when I use it. Other wise I keep it in its box under an entertainment system when its not in use. I used to keep a small piece of duct tape on the cover to keep it shut when not in use, but after this, I took it off and threw it away (the piece of tape).
I've kept the vents vacuumed out but its always run rather warm.
What can I do (apart from sending it in for repair, as that is not an option) to keep it cool?
And anyone else run into this issue with their PS3's while using PS Now and/or Playstation Store. I've run into a freezing issue before on it, but this overheat is a first.

You have a buildup of dust on the heatsink and the thermal paste has dried out, losing it effectiveness at transferring heat.
Look up some videos on how to open it up and clean the guts out. Buy a small tube of thermal paste, something that is non-conductive, put a pea/rice sized amount, and put it all back together.
Should run a lot cooler

Should run a lot cooler I'm pretty sure it's related to the Playstation store just not working that well on the PS3. So I'm just limiting use of that to only downloading games from it or avatars. I've run into the same crash issue before when trying to look at avatars. When they upgraded the store for the PS4, it made the store almost unusable for PS3's. I had no overheating warning show up, so I think it was just a simple crash. I dusted it out via vacuum and things seem to be ok.
