Ok I have not figured out this one from Hextall. I knew the Hawks were leaving TVR and Kreugar so no big surprise there. I wouldn't have minded if the Hawks let Keith or Seabrook go though, both getting old and Seabrook is getting even slower if that is possible.
Flyers leave Mason AND Neivirth unprotected!? So basically they have NO starting goalie. I guess they are assuming that with Fleury out there LV will only take Mason or Neuvirth, not both.
The list of forwards is impressive that they didn't protect! The only one that I scratch my head on is Raffl, the rest can go. I cannot believe they are protecting Gudas!! Is Hextal getting weekly head from this guy? He SUCKS! In all honesty, the only D man that I would protect is GB.
And this is why, at the beginning of last season, I said that the Flyers were at best an AHL team. Honestly there are maybe 5 players I would protect and I could argue Vorcek (could be a great player but gets lazy) and Simmonds (while I like his leadership he just cannot skate) not be protected. At best sure protect, IMHO, Couturier (but has to be allowed to play and offensive role), Giroux, GB, Stolarz, Mason (I think with a better D he will be just fine).
Here’s the Flyers’ protected list:
Forwards (7) Sean Couturier Valtteri Filppula Claude Giroux Scott Laughton Brayden Schenn Wayne Simmonds Jakub Voracek
Defensemen (3) Shayne Gostisbehere Radko Gudas Brandon Manning
Goaltender (1) Anthony Stolarz
The players who were left unprotected from which the Vegas Golden Knights can choose from are:
Forwards Bellemare, Greg Carey, Chris Connor, Boyd Gordon, Taylor Leier, Colin McDonald, Andy Miele, Raffl, Matt Read, Chris VandeVelde, Jordan Weal, Dale Weise, and Eric Wellwood.
Defensemen T.J. Brennan, Michael Del Zotto, Andrew MacDonald, Will O’Neill, Jesper Petterson, Nick Schultz.
Goalies Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth.

Are either of those goalies going UFA or RFA? if so that is why they did not protect them, would make no sense for Vegas to take someone like that only to have them make a deal with their old or a new team and lose them. Or to protect them and have them leave for a new team.
It's the reason Markov and Radulov are not protected, they are both up for new contracts.

I could have sworn Neuvirth just signed a new contract. Mason may be a RFA.

Today is the day, Vegas will select their players this morning and it will be announced tonight.
Edit: The Vegas Golden Knights have submitted their expansion draft picks to the NHL. Now, we wait.
