The short version of the History of Israel. 1) At the turn of last century the Israelites wanted to reclaim their "homeland" of Jerusalem which is part of Syria at the time. The Israelites(jews) ingather out in the desert with the Syrians who live there and lay claim to their "homeland" 2) The arabs were NOT happy about this and there were small skirmishes and fights between the Jews and the Arabs so England and The U.N. (love those guys) stepped in and divided the land between "Palestine (who was really Syria)" and the other part to the new Jewish homeland. 3) Then on May 14, 1948 the Israelites and the UN declared the state of Israel 4) On May 15, 1948 the "Palestinians" along with Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq declared war against this new Jewish state in an effort to wipe it out 5) Israel won that war and took even more of the lands that were originally set aside, by the UN, for Palestine. 6) The land that was still left for Palestine was then annexed by Syria (west bank) and Egypt (Gaza Strip) 7) Neither Syria or Egypt allowed Palestine to form its own government in either area. That is the simple version. |
