I've been pondering the actual relevance of a person's IQ to his or her prospects.
The internet famous Jordan B. Peterson is enthusiastic about IQ, and thinks it matters a great deal when it comes to the types of jobs people can have based on their IQs. You can find him lecturing his students about IQ on Youtube, or discussing with another IQ obsessed person, Stefan Molyneux, about it.
My psychology professor says IQ tests are just a business and unusable to assess one's intellect. She kind of has this idea that "if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything":
We humans often want to hear what we already 'know' to be true, and we dismiss opinions that don't fit within our schemas. That is why I don't want to dismiss her as a stupid bitch, but I want to consider the possibility that intelligence is more flexible.
Peterson also rejected the idea of 'multiple intelligencies' purely based on semantics (!?). So Peterson has a very fixed idea of what intelligence is. I just don't know if A) he's right B) he's not only wrong, but his school of thought is actually dangerous and elitist.
